You are about to begin the application process for becoming a Lifewater International volunteer Field Trainer (FT).
The following questions describe some of Lifewater’s core values. They are designed to help you determine if Lifewater might be a good fit for your skills and passions. As you read each one, select the response that fits you best. We appreciate your interest in Lifewater and hope you learn more about yourself and us through this process.
Value Statement #1
Faith-based Organization
Lifewater is a Christian training organization. Because our volunteer field trainers represent Lifewater and its values, it is important that all those applying agree with Lifewater’s Statement of Faith: “We believe in one Living God, who exists in three persons, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in Jesus Christ who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary and is true God and true man. We believe Christ died for the sins of humankind and rose again and is victorious over death. We believe that the power of Christ’s Holy Spirit enables people to live to His glory.”
Value Statement #2
Voluntary Time
It is Lifewater’s policy to offer unpaid opportunities to those who desire to use their God-given skills, experience, and talents to train our international partners in holistic water development. All work is done voluntarily, meaning that you will not be compensated for your time and labor as a field trainer.
Value Statement #3
Training
Lifewater International is a training organization, we believe that the success of a trip is not measured by, for instance, how many water wells our field trainers install, but whether or not our international partners are trained so they can continue the work after the field trainer team returns home.
Lifewater International offers our volunteer field trainers an introduction course followed by preparatory classes in various areas of water, sanitation and hygiene to equip them for joining a Lifewater trip team.
Value Statement #4
Expenses
Each United States based preparatory course and international training trip have a corresponding cost. These costs are based on the course costs, project training objectives, duration of the trip, and geographic location. Field Trainers pay for the cost of each preparatory course and training trip they participate in. Preparatory class costs range from $250 to $450 each; this cost does not include travel, lodging fees, etc. Trip costs range from $1100 to $1800; this cost does not include airfare, passport, or immunization fees. Any funds raised over the cost of the trip that are processed through Lifewater will be used to support the project.
Value Statement #5
Team Conduct
While serving on a training trip, volunteer field trainers are asked to conduct themselves in a godly manner and must agree with Lifewater’s Team Code of Conduct:
- Exemplify a servant’s attitude at all times.
- Be flexible in all types of circumstances.
- Agree to be part of a team and submit to the authority of the team leader at all times. If for any reason the team leader believes your behavior is not acceptable, the team leader has the right to send you home at your own expense.
- Recognize that you are living, traveling and working as a part of a team, in conditions that may be less than ideal.
- Exert effort to accomplish whatever task is assigned when on the work site, in the classroom, or while traveling.
- Abstain from conduct as requested by international leaders or team leader. Certain conduct may be offensive to others or may be contrary to a clear testimony for Jesus Christ, realizing that customs vary greatly from culture to culture. In particular, Lifewater requires that team members refrain from all use of tobacco, alcoholic beverages, abusive drugs, and inappropriate sexual behavior.
